Tongariro River below Poutu Intake 2021 Recreational Releases :

Flows of 30 cubic metres per second for 6 hours will be released from Poutu Intake into the Tongariro River between 9am and 3pm on the following dates:

* Saturday 20th February 2021

* Saturday10th April 2021

* Saturday 25th September 2021

Everyone has a different way of attaching the indicator. But if you're constantly on the move using one that slides on the line will be a huge advantage both when fishing and landing trout. There are a number of methods that will allow the indicator to slide up or down, figure of eighting small pieces of rubber rig tube, tiny dental bands, slip knots, sea fishing rig crimps etc. But the advantage of float stops is they're custom made for the job and they don't damage or kink the line in any way. There are several ways to make a sliding indicator. This well known method probably originated in the States and was shown to me a few years ago by top Taupo guide Andrew Christmas. Its main advantage is that it can be attached to the leader even if the rod is already rigged just like the strike indicator tool featured above left. The whole process takes less than 30 seconds. The following images illustrate each step but without the fingers. All you need is some water-proofed yarn and a dental rubber band.
