Tongariro Update. Mon 23rd September, 2013
Although levels have dropped significantly, after another night of almost continuous rain the river has stuck at 130 cumecs. The rain has eased to drizzle in Turangi but the Tongariro remains un-fishable. Tight lines guys Mike ... |

Flood ! Sun 22nd September, 2013
The heavy rain that swept across the country during the night saw the Tongariro peak this morning at 650 cumecs. The mini-flood we had last week shifted a bit of gravel and silt around but there will probably be a few changes along the river after this one. Although this wasn't a huge flood there was still a bit of debris coming down, so when it drops back to fish-able levels expect some nice new snags to be waiting for you ... and I bet every one of them will be just where you don't want them to be! Saffers score on the Tongariro. Mon 16th September, 2013
South Africans didn't have have much to smile about at Eden Park … but seven visiting Saffer rugby fans and one lone Irishman had plenty to smile about when they fished the Tongariro on the weekend. If J.D and Richard look familiar its because they were here in October 2011 during the Rugby World Cup. The guys were understandably disappointed but last time they didn’t have their lucky mascot with them. And as soon as Irishman J ... |

Tongariro Update Thu 12th September, 2013
After a night of torrential rain the Tongariro peaked at around 250 cumecs. By 10.30 am it had dropped to 190 cumecs and levels will continue to fall quickly if it doesn't rain. Once its fish-able there will be some excellent sport as trout mop up the nymphs and larvae dislodged from their hiding places on the river bed ... get up here. Tight lines Mike ... |

Runs in full swing. Wed 11th September, 2013
Another week of top notch fishing on the Tongariro with the runs in full swing. If you haven’t fly fished before, now is a great time to give it a try. Mohammed Zabadi from Jordan did just that and the smile says it all. On Sunday I had the best six hour session for over four years. During the morning I was joined by three other anglers on a weekend trip from Auckland and by then the tally was already past double figures … what a fantastic river. I would have had some great shots for you but unfortunately I forgot to check my camera battery and it ran out. A big thank you to Richard Manthe ... |
