| Still plenty of anglers enjoying the excellent fishing on the Tongariro and with more clubs in town its going to be another busy weekend. The lower river and town pools get a lot of attention during the spawning runs, particularly after a fresh. And up until last Sunday when the flows were still in the forties parts of the old Braids in front of the lodge were still worth a try. Its a little more difficult there now that things have returned to normal. Fish will still use this stretch but its not the well established route it once was. It just gets better...

| It just gets better ... and its been another wonderful week on the Tongariro. Flows hovered between forty and fifty again for most of the time and this combined with a slightly murky color provided perfect conditions. Wet-liners definitely had the edge until mid-week, particularly in some of the pools. But a lot of the color has dropped out the last couple of days and "nymphers" have had a ball. Glenn Goode and his son Chris know the river well and they had some beauties yesterday. Return of the Braids

| As things settled back after the fresh the never ending rain and showers ensured that flows stayed between forty and fifty cumecs. The extra volume and color kept the fish coming and the Tongariro received plenty of attention from anglers keen to get into the action. The Braids for instance got absolutely thrashed over the weekend as the runs continued. And I've probably seen more anglers there this week than for the whole of the past few years. No surprise.

| It was no surprise that the Tongariro switched on after the fresh. I got on the river as the flows dipped below eighty and hit fish straight away. With the river carrying plenty of color, fly choice was easy. And for most of the day I fished egg patterns in places away from the main current. First port of call was an empty Braids but it wasn't long before I had some company. Its been a long time coming but the river is finally gaining the upper hand here. | Things have picked up again since the last report with more fantastic fishing on the Tongariro. There have been fresh runs just about every day this week which has ensured a good even spread of rainbows throughout the river. It doesn't matter where you fish at the moment you will hook up. Last week it was predominantly hens getting caught and again there have been some crackers landed over the weekend. But earlier this week anglers were reporting catching big numbers of male trout in full spawning colors. This usually signals another big run of females isn't far away.
