| Another four days on the river has flown by and I’m back in Kapiti mowing lawns, cleaning windows and catching up with all my “hubbie” jobs before the next trip up to my second home. I promised to get back to you if anything exciting happened…well it didn’t…but we’ll do a little update anyway. With the river level down to a comfortable 32 cumecs and the color dropping out I headed downriver again to have another scout around. | I suspect that like a lot of other Tongariro anglers the latter part of last week was spent with one eye on the Genesis flow graph readings. After the ups and downs of the last couple of months everyone was hoping that this latest fresh would be the catalyst which would give the fish a bit more of a kick up the bum and send them our way. As I drove over the road bridge late Saturday morning it had dropped to a perfect 40 cumecs and was still quite colored. | Update Saturday 28th May 4.00am. The Tongariro looks to have peaked at 390 cumecs and is now flowing at 44.5 cumecs. This will get the fish moving and anglers traveling up should have a ball over the next few days. It wouldn't surprise me to see some really good fish caught this weekend. Load up the truck guys...I'll see you out there. Earlier in the week I spent a morning on the river with Kent Price the owner of the Bridge Motel who had suddenly decided to dust off his fly gear and leaky waders for the first time in five years. | No its not a new pool this is where I’ve been stranded for two weeks while you lucky lot have been filling your boots with trout. What a difference that couple of weeks has made. The river is currently flowing at 28 cumecs and looks awesome with just a slight tinge of milky green. After last week’s small flood most of any remaining summer slime has gone and there's some ideal looking gravel in the river which I'm sure the fish will make good use of. Hit or miss.

| The Tongariro has everyone scratching their heads at present so just a quick update. After the rain earlier in the week that saw the river peak at 143 cumecs anglers were expecting to encounter a few spawning rainbows as levels fell and the colour dropped out. Even this good flush doesn’t seem to have triggered many of them to run the Tongariro but there are encouraging reports from a couple of the Northern rivers.
