Tongariro river update.

| Thanks to Tongariro regular Glenn Good for the following update and to Terry Trout for some of the images taken earlier in the week. I fished on Thursday after noon up at the Kamahi for just one touch, the Breakfast Pool and the Blue pool for zip. The river was pretty colored up and you could only just see your feet at knee deep. I tried a big glowie on the edges but no luck. On Friday I fished the Waimarino river mouth first thing for one really nice fat jack but gave up after two and a half hours of bugger all else. Some rain at last.

| I was awakened in the early hours by a sound I hadn’t heard for a while … heavy rain. It’s a noise that always reminds me of growing up back in Wales. Those of us of a certain age will remember the old days of analogue telly before hundreds of digital channels and round the clock television. When I was a kid in fifties Britain we had the BBC and that was it. In those days they only broadcast at certain times of the day and stopped altogether each evening at 11.00 pm. A funny old week.

| Its been a funny old week on the Tongariro... that " in between time " in the fishing calender that we experience every year. This is when things becomes a little more difficult no matter what we try. I found the fishing got harder as the week went on but kept at it because you sense good times are just around the corner and from now on you never know when a few fish will decide to go for it. At the start of the week the threat of rain saw some small runs move through. But with other things on their minds they kept on going and disappeared as quickly as the showers. Right place ...right time.

| Just a quick update. The rain and showers that were initially forecast for most of the week didn't hang around for long and the day or so of showers we did have made no difference to the river. Some bits and pieces of rain for the second half of the week and then its back to " summer " for a couple of days with a showery outlook for next week.
