Tongariro browns up. Mon 29th January, 2018

Just a quick report.
I'm not sure what happened to the river over the holiday weekend. But when I drove over the bridge early Saturday morning it was a nice milky green. By the time I got up to Big Bend it was chocolate and later that afternoon it looked as if it had been "tangoed".
There's no doubt the spate like color put anglers off. But although it was slow going those that did perservere were rewarded with a few fish.
Its that time of year when most of the reports have photos of Tongariro browns so here's a couple more.
Carl and Jack are long time buddies, both originally from the USA. Jack now lives in New Zealand but they still meet up as often as they can to share their passion for fishing and the New York Yankees.
After a week chasing South Island fish they had a couple of days on the Tongariro before heading to the Mohaka and did ok in the less than ideal conditions.
Hot as buggerey for the next couple of days and then it looks like a return to heavy rain with the wind picking up. The river looks normal again and there are a few fish around so it should be a much better week ahead. The odd fish coming for the cicada and there'll be more browns showing up again ... have a great week.
Tight lines
