After a bit of a false start at the beginning of the month contracters have now moved their machinery in. The gate is closed and there is no longer public access until further notice.

The logging operation is expected to take at least six weeks. But understandably everyone is concerned about what happens when the work is finished.

Without this track getting at some of the best stretches of the upper river inolves a long hike up from Red Hut bridge and then crossing the river at some point if you want to fish the TLB.

The rocks on the river bed are already pretty slippery and I'm sure there'll be some anglers taking a dunking over the coming weeks.

Be careful out there guys.

Tight lines

FOOTNOTE

There are now signs on the TRB asking anglers not to cross over while access is closed and logging is taking place. They also say "weekdays" this suggested it might be open on weekends.

Don't get your hopes up.

I rang NZ Forest Management for clarification and the track will remain closed 7 days a week until the contractors have finished. So far the estimated completion date is the 22nd of December.
