HEAVY RAIN WARNING
AREA/S AFFECTED
From Waitomo to Taupo and Tongariro across to the Headwaters of the Whanganui River

FORECAST
Heavy rain is expected to ease late this morning. In the 2 hours from 9am to11am today (Friday), a further 20 to 30mm is forecast to accumulate on top of what has already fallen. Peak intensities of 10 to 15mm per hour.

After almost 24 hours of relentless rain the Tongariro peaked overnight at 477 cumecs.

By the time I drove south into Turangi this morning there was already some surface flooding on SH1 but the river had dropped significantly and the flows were reading 233 cumecs.

The rain did ease a little before lunch but its raining hard again at the moment with more forecast until later today. So levels could rise again in the next few hours depending on events further upriver.

Looks like a fine weekend ahead and when the river drops to fishable levels as usual there should be some great fishing. After the fresh

There were some excellent rainbows reported before this flood and next week has the potential to be a cracker of a week on the Tongariro ... see you out there.

Tight lines

Mike
