The rain hammered down for most of yesterday and right through the night, with torrential downpours. When I awoke this morning and checked the flow graph I fully expected it to be double the actual reading. Because at around 5.00 am it was under 200 cumecs.

By the time I drove up to Red Hut Bridge at 10.00 am that had increased to just over three hundred. The rain has eased right off at present but there is more heavy rain forecast countrywide until later this evening.

This could still turn out to be a significant fresh ... with rain and showers not expected to clear completely until Saturday.

Once the river does eventually fall back to fishable levels it should be good out there.

Some of the "boaties" where I live have been telling me for weeks they've been getting great conditioned rainbows out on the lake.

We may see more of these in the river after this ... Tongariro currently at 338 cumecs at 11.00 am

GENESIS ENERGY TUNNEL INSPECTION

Genesis Energy has been undertaking an inspection of the Tokaanu Tunnel since Monday 3rd April. High rainfall and ground water levels has meant part of the tunnel could not be inspected and the project has been extended until Tuesday 11 April to complete the inspection (noting that if all goes well the project may conclude earlier).
