Work began this afternoon downriver of the SH 1 road bridge to repair the stone wall that reinforces the bank on the TRB that extends towards the bottom end of Herekiekie Street.

The machines moved in and bull-dozed the island to create a dam at the top end of the right hand channel to divert the river. This will enable them to place more boulders along the bottom of this stretch of wall to strengthen it.

There's obviously a lot more flow down... what was ... the left hand side and the river below the bridge pool is considerably wider and the current much stronger. It will also have some effect on the bridge pool itself ... a favorite possie for many anglers at this time of year.

Its too early to tell exactly what will happen downstream but expect some color in the river from time to time while the repairs are underway.

Tight lines guys
