A beautiful Autumn day in Turangi with temperatures reaching the low twenties by mid-morning. With little or no wind and not too many anglers on the river I can't think of a better place to be.

Anglers are reporting a real mixture of fish and you never know what you'll encounter from one cast to the next. The best way to increase your chances is to keep on the move because its still early days and the distribution of trout seems to be very uneven.

I didn't get on the river until after lunch and other than a couple of skinny hens I'd relocated three times before I found a few decent fish later in the afternoon.
It was worth the effort because they were cracking fish that gave the tackle a real workout in the fast run where they were caught and released.

Plenty of caddis and mayfly in the river and for a week or two now I've been doing ok with size 14 - 12 dark brown mayfly nymphs.

A day or two of settled weather then it looks as if we're in for a wet spell. There are some very good rainbows amongst the run of the mill stuff. Expect more to turn up particularly if the weathermen have got it right.

Have a great week guys

Mike.
